Chapter 38
Bron awoke slowly in the morning
aware of the sounds around her. She heard him get
up and shower. She glanced at the clock. I have
to stop this; I don’t sleep like this at home.
Bron buried herself further under
the covers. She heard Kevin finish up in the bathroom,
come out, get dressed and go to the kitchen. What
the hell ever happen to Backstreet time she muttered
into her pillow.
She smelled the coffee, hmm smells
good, but I’m not ready to face him yet. I need a
plan and he keeps throwing me off track.
Bron laid there half asleep trying
to gather her thoughts. She knew Bounce was somewhere
down south. Most likely Orlando. Bounce sounded
happy and very excited on the phone. Bron knew she
was safe but didn’t like the fact that he wouldn’t
tell her where she was. Well I’ll get to you baby
and real soon. How I don’t know yet, but I will.
Now what to do about Kevin. She
heard the speech he gave her last night in her head
and began to break it down. Well he’s been reading
the fic awhile, that’s for sure. She thought about
his possessiveness and didn’t understand why it was
a problem with her. Oh well, let that one go for
now, it really doesn’t matter. It annoyed her that
he was right; he did rule her thoughts night and day
for the last few months. Jerk, she said to herself.
Bron sighed thinking about what he
did to her. Man, what he does to me, there’s no pretending
about that and he proved that yesterday morning and
last night. She thought about C.W. and was saddened.
He was the only other person that could do that to
her, but yet there was a difference with Kevin. But
what is it?
Her heart leapt as she recalled he
had said he loved her. She wondered if he had meant
it or was it from the heat of the moment.
Bron had to give Kevin credit for
dealing with all that was going on her life. She
got a little angry at the thought that he was more
than dealing with it; he was handling it.
Things have changed, she mused.
The nightmares for some unknown reason had slowed
down except for the terrible one Saturday. I couldn’t
pull myself out of that one it was really scary.
Then she remembered that she felt warmth close around
her towards the end and felt safe, the nightmare stopped.
She remembered Kevin saying he had rocked her out
of her nightmares but she didn’t recall him doing
it.
Hmm, his definition of ownership
was a little tilted, but I guess if you look at it
the way he does, it would seem that way.
Dammit, I don’t like this she said
to herself. He’s sucking me in. What he did last
night was just damn mean. She laid there thinking
under her pillow as she pulled it over her head.
Oh, hell what’s the point, I need to figure out how
the hell to get out of here.
“Bron time to get up,” she heard
him speak from the bedroom door.
Bron didn’t budge and didn’t answer.
She wasn’t in the mood. She hadn’t even begun her
exit plan yet and she was getting melancholy on top
of it.
“Bron get up and get moving. I have
to a lot of things to do.” She heard him say harshly.
Too bad jackass I’m not getting up
yet. “Leave me alone,” she spoke into the bed.
“No, I have stuff to do,” he said
as he walked into the bedroom.
“Big deal, I don’t,” she replied.
“Bron get out of that bed before
I take you out of it myself,” he warned her.
Bron smiled into the bed thinking
to herself. Come on Bron you know damn well you want
him back in this bed. He can make up for what he
did last night. Bron blew him off and didn’t move
one inch. It was so quiet she could hear her watch
tick on her arm. She felt the blankets being lifted
and a satisfied smile slithered across her face.
That a boy Kev she thought, come and get me. All
of sudden her body was jerked out from under the blankets
and she was standing in front of him, stark naked
Kevin stood there smirking at her.
“I know that wasn’t what you had in mind but it works
for me,” he chirped.
“Errr,” she growled and stormed to
the bathroom.
“You’re smart Bron, but not that
smart,” he said as he walked back to the living room.
Besides, we’re going to talk about this, he reflected
to himself.
Bron showered, dressed, and headed
for the kitchen for her coffee. Kevin was working
on paperwork at the desk she noticed, as she walked
by.
“What are you doing today?” she asked
him.
Kevin glanced at his watch. “I have
a meeting, then a radio interview, a sound check,
and then a rehearsal.”
“Wow, that’s a long day, plus the
show tonight,” she commented as she sipped her coffee.
“Mmm hmmm,” he answered her, never
picking his head up from the papers in front of him.
Bron sat for a while and finished
her first cup. “You owe me an apology for last night
and for what you did to me on the bus,” she said as
she got up and to pour her second cup. Bron heard
the chair at the desk squeak and she turned around
after pouring her coffee.
Kevin had put his feet up on the
desk and leaned back in the chair. “I do?” he questioned
her.
“Yes you do,” she stated, glaring
over her coffee cup.
“Well forget it, you won’t get one,”
he told her flatly with no emotion.
“I said I was sorry on the bus,”
she pouted at him.
He couldn’t help but smile, “Yeah
you did. Then you turned around and embarrassed me
in front of my friends.”
Bron knew he was right. “So then
why did you do that on the bus to me? To get even
with me?” she asked him nervously.
“No,” he laughed. “I was giving
you what you wanted since you got out of bed that
morning. It wasn’t my fault our room turned into
party central.”
“That wasn’t what I wanted,” she
growled at him.
“Oh I know what you wanted….me.
I figured after what you did to me you could wait,”
he spoke as he lowered his voice at her and glared.
“I gave you what you needed, not what you wanted and
that pissed you off.”
Bron glowered at him; “Fine I’ll
accept that, considering I really didn’t have a choice.
But what about last night?”
Kevin rocked back in the chair.
“Oh last night. Well last night was just giving you
a taste of your own medicine.” He smiled.
Bron sat there furious with him.
You smartass she thought. She wanted to get up and
smack him right in the face.
“What’s the matter, you don’t like
being teased?” he asked her. Bron sat there frowning
at him.
“Good neither do I,” he remarked
raising his eyebrows and folding his hands together
in his lap. “I told you I don’t like being teased.
Don’t do it again.”
Bron sat there looking, not believing
what he was saying to her. How did he know she thought;
I’ll fix you, my time is coming. Bron dropped her
head and stared at her cup.
“We need to talk about something
else too,” he grinned at her. “I’m not sleeping with
you anymore.” Bron looked at him totally confused.
This is a first, he thought. She has been understanding
me up till now, as he studied her baffled expression.
“What you’re going to sleep on the
couch?” she asked him.
“No,” he answered her with a snicker.
“Well, I’m not sleeping on the couch
Lurch,” she informed him.
He raised his hands and interlaced
his fingers, placing them behind his head. She doesn’t
get it he thought, Oh well. “No,” he answered with
much amusement in his voice.
“What the hell are trying to say
Kevin? I’m not in the mood for puzzles,” she spoke,
raising her voice three octaves.
“I’m not sleeping with you anymore,”
he repeated for her benefit. Kevin saw the light
go on behind her eyes and continued. “I’m tired of
playing games with you. I will not be cajoled, teased,
or tricked into making love to you anymore. Nor will
I be a sleep when you decide to go exploring.” He
snickered at her and waited for her response.
The look on Bron’s face was priceless
and he would never forget it. It was pure shock mixed
with surprise and fear. Oh God, this is good he laughed
in his head. “So the next time you want us to be
together it will be because you’re the aggressor,”
Kevin paused, “Not because you are a tease or sneak.
You want me, then you’ll have to ask, straight up.”
Kevin smirked at her, “You’re thirty-six years old,
and it’s time for you to grow up.”
Bron was blowing up inside, you son
of a bitch. You think I can’t walk away from you.
You don’t know about Mc and I. I had to walk away
for three years. Trust me Lurch you will crumble
before I do. How the hell do you know how old I am
anyway, she pondered.
Kevin stretched back in the chair
and studied her. Nope she’s not liking this at all.
Well darlin’ this relationship needs to get off the
ground and it will be an adult one, he mused.
“I want to go home,” she hissed at
him.
“No, subject closed,” he announced,
knowing now that she was just ignoring him and being
stubborn. You’ll find out the hard way sweetheart,
he thought, and you’re not running home to get away
from me either.
“Please, can we talk about this?”
she pleaded to him.
“I don’t have time right now. I
have to get this done,” he answered her.
“Fine, Let me know when you can fit
me in. I am going home.” she ground out.
Kevin looked at her and shook his
head, yeah how, he thought.
