CHAPTER 14
"Let's dance Holly-Berry.."
God, no….
Before Holly could protest, J.C. had thrown
his arms around her waist and was moving her onto the dance
floor. This was the last thing she needed tonight. Holly was
already nervous and now J.C.'s advances had left her shaken
as well. He was talking to her but she didn't hear what he was
saying. She just wanted to get to Nick.
Holly had spent a lonely and miserable
week but she had come to a decision. Tristan had been right.
She did know what to do. She just hadn't expected that
falling in love and wanting to spend your life with a man could
get so complicated. She had grown up believing the fairy tales
and had begun to envy Tristan's lack of knowledge of such things
because she had no expectations of people and events. Nick would
be looking for a 'sign' and Holly wore it on her left hand for
the world to see. She hoped he hadn't changed his mind. This
could prove to be a long, long night.
"…..Carter."
It was the only word from J.C.'s mouth
that had penetrated Holly's fog. Her eyes stopped darting around
the room and landed on J.C.'s face.
"What?"
J.C. sighed in exasperation. "You haven't
heard a word I said!" he scolded.
"I'm sorry…"
"Nevermind… I said that I heard that you
and Carter were an item. Is that true?"
"Where did you hear that?" Holly asked
curiously.
"Oh, you know… Word gets around." He grinned
mischievously. "I heard some stuff about you and me, too.."
Shit. "Oh?" Holly remarked innocently.
"You're turning red. Just like a holly
berry!" J.C. Laughed.
"Cut the crap, J.C.!" Holly silently cursed
Nick's booming voice.
"I was flattered, Holly! Honestly!"
"Shut up…"
J.C. Laughed again and spun her around.
"I hear Carter's been away for a while.
Guess you'd rather be dancing with him, huh?"
Holly shot him a look that conveyed her
desires more eloquently than words ever could.
"Damn, girl! Freeze my balls off why don't
'ya?" J.C. demonstrated his concern by dropping his hand to
the crotch of his pants as if protecting his precious cargo.
"Okay.. I'll just dance you over to the heartthrob of the Backdoor
Boys…"
"NO! Don't you dare!" Holly spit. "I can
manage…"
It was too late. J.C.. who was feeling
little pain, had Holly around the waist and was clumsily leading
her through the throng of dancers on the floor. Before she knew
what was happening, they were dancing only a few feet from Nick
and Tristan. Luckily, Nick's back was to them. Holly saw Tristan
glance over Nick's shoulder in her direction.
Tristan did a classic double take. Her
eyes grew unnaturally wide. 'What in the hell are you doing?'
she mouthed. Holly looked panic stricken and nodded towards
J.C. 'Help me!' she mouthed back, fearful that if Nick saw her
in the arms of J.C. Chasez he would mistake this as his 'sign'.
Tristan glanced sideways towards the table
and willed Amanda to look her way. They needed reinforcements.
Through a series of nods, darting eyes and mouthed commands,
Amanda finally caught Tristan's cue. By now, the entire table
was watching the two couples slowly moving on a collision course.
An interception was mandatory. Holly looked like she might faint.
"Gotta dance!" Amanda shouted and shot
up from her chair.
"Shit. Can't I finish my drink first?"
AJ pouted. The unfolding drama seemed to be passing him by.
Not with you." Amanda reprimanded
him with a slap on the head. "With J.C.!"
AJ looked more than annoyed. He didn't
get mad often but he was getting there now.
"What the fuck, Amanda! You tryin' to work
your way through the whole group? Jesus…"
"Shut-up, AJ!"
As Amanda walked towards the dancers, Tristan
was doing her best to keep Nick from turning.
"I think I'm suppose to lead, Tris…" Nick
whispered as he slowly began his turn.
At that point, everything in the room seemed
to be moving in slow motion for Holly. She watched as Nick slowly
began to rotate. Tristan's mouth opened and she blinked as her
head turned towards Holly. J.C. nodded and smiled to some unknown
person behind her. Kevin was frowning and slowly rising from
the table as Amanda pushed through the crowd towards her. Holly
closed her eyes and held her breath. She heard no sounds until….
"Mind if I cut in, Holly? I've been looking
for this hunka hunka burning love!"
Amanda forced herself between Holly and
J.C. She threw her arms around J.C,'s neck and grinned into
his shocked face as she began to dance him away as quickly as
possible. Holly stood. frozen and Tristan expelled such a sigh
of relief that she seemed to weaken in Nick's arms.
"Jesus, Tris! What's wrong? Are you all
right?" Nick started searching for Kevin, scared shitless.
"I'm okay…" Tristan coughed.
Suddenly Kevin was right behind her, pulling
her away from Nick and supporting her against his chest.
"I've got her…” Kevin said as he turned
Tristan around to face him and began sway in time to the music.
"I think that lady behind you is waiting for a dance, anyway…
and Nick - close your mouth…."
Nick turned around and faced the barely
composed vision in blue chiffon.
"Don't listen to him, Nick.." Holly whispered
as she pulled his face down to hers. "Keep that mouth open,
baby.."
“I was wondering if I was going to get
a dance with you.” Kevin teased. “I'm not exactly crazy about
coming in second to Nick..”
Tristan giggled into Kevin’s shoulder.
“I was just savoring the anticipation.” She flirted.
Kevin felt Tristan’s fingers brushing back
and forth across his backside. “Don’t you go starting something
you’re not willing to finish.” He advised, only half joking.
“Remember where we are…”
“Who says I’m not willing to finish?” Tristan
answered seductively. Her arms went around Kevin’s neck and
she brought his ear down to her mouth. “All I want to know,
Kevin, is if you want me on my stomach, on my back, in your
lap or on my knees…” She blew lightly into his ear and heard
him moan.
“Jesus, Tris….”
Kevin held her close and she could feel
his hardness beginning. “This place is a little ‘public’, don’t
you think?” He sighed with a mixture of frustration and annoyance.
“I seem to remember a party at a plane
hangar about a year ago that was pretty ‘public’….”
Kevin grinned in spite of himself. He remembered.
“Oh, yes…the red panties…” he mused. The memory did nothing
to help ease the tightness in his pants.
Brian and Leighanne, who had danced up
along side of them, interrupted his reverie.
“Shit.” Kevin mumbled under his breath.
“Hey!” Brian grinned. He paused to dip
Leighanne dramatically and then let her hang there until she
winced and slapped his arm. He laughed and brought her back
to a standing position. “Where’s Nick? I wanted to say hello…”
Kevin looked into the crowd. Nick and Holly
seemed to have vanished. “I don’t know where they went.” He
muttered. “I wanted to talk to him for a minute, too.”
“I think I’d wait a bit if I were you…”
Brian said with mock seriousness. “He might think you missed
him a little too much.” Brian dropped his eyes to the general
area of Kevin’s crotch and was delighted to see Kevin frown
and turn pink.
“Ha… Ha…” Kevin sneered. “Maybe I’m just
happy to see you, Brian…”
“Oh, no…” Brian scolded. “Don’t go there.
That’s incest!” He dipped Leigh again and she groaned before
they began to dance away. “I’ll find the little bugger!” Brian
called back over his shoulder.
Tristan glanced at the pair as Brian seemed
to skip across the dance floor. He seemed to be in unusually
good spirits tonight. His mood had improved significantly even
since she and Kevin had arrived. Leighanne caught Tristan’s
eye as they moved away and tried to tell her something. She
was mouthing words over Brian’s shoulder that Tristan couldn’t
seem to catch. Finally, Leighanne repeated the two words slowly
and in an exaggerated manner, wanting Tristan to get her message.
‘Asa’s here…’
Nick was practically dragging Holly down
the narrow hallway that opened off the back corner of the ballroom.
“Where are we going?” she shouted at him
as they rounded yet another corner. “I haven’t seen you in a
week! Don’t I get a ‘hello’ at least?”
“We’re almost there!” Nick panted. “I found
this place when I was getting dressed tonight…”
He skidded to a stop beside a door marked
‘K. Linen’ and looked up and down the deserted corridor. Empty….
Good… Nick pushed open the door and pulled Holly in behind
him, slamming the door and locking it. He groped around for
a light switch but couldn’t find one. The room was totally void
of any light. Neither of them could see a thing.
“Nick?” Holly cried out nervously as she
heard him fumbling around the room.
“I’m here, baby…”
“What is this place?” She reached out into
the darkness, grabbing at air.
“Linen closet. You know, tablecloths and
stuff..” Nick sounded a little breathless.
“But…”
Holly didn’t have the opportunity to ask
another question. Nick’s weight was suddenly pressing her body
against the door as his mouth found hers in the darkness. He
seemed almost feverish and groaned against her lips as his tongue
sought the familiar warmth and sweetness of her mouth. His hands
lifted the folds of her skirt and Holly felt them press into
her thighs and move behind her where he instinctively began
to stroke and squeeze her buttocks. His mouth moved away from
hers, seeking new territory and Holly let her head fall back
against the door. She was finding it difficult to catch her
breath. There were no more words.
Nick began to pull at the buttons on her
strapless bodice and Holly felt a rush of cool air on her bare
breasts before they were covered with Nick’s hand and mouth.
Her legs weakened and Nick supported her weight as she moved
her legs up his thighs and wrapped them around his hips. She
could feel Nick’s erection and ground herself against him suddenly
acknowledging the primal urges she had been forced to suppress
for so many days.
Nick stepped back, carrying her, until
his back hit a wall. He could feel Holly’s fingers combing through
his hair as he buried his face in her neck. pleading for her
love.
“Show me, Holly… Please, baby… Show me.
Give me your sign…”
Nick’s body slid slowly down the wall until
he hit the floor and Holly fell into a straddling position across
his hips. She rocked against him, creating a warming friction
that only added to his agony.
When Holly had been approached by J.C.
on the dance floor, she had turned the stones in her engagement
ring towards her palm, not wishing to make any visual statements
until after she found Nick. The ring was still twisted on her
finger. She quickly pulled at Nick’s belt, unfastened the buckle
and unzipped his trousers. She couldn’t see him but she could
feel his need and desire. When she gently stroked his bulk with
her fingertips and cradled his sac, lifting his weight, he groaned
her name and seemed to collapse against the wall.
“Show me, Holly…” he whispered again. “…the
sign….”
Holly smiled in the darkness and released
him. As Nick began to raise his hips in a slow, frustrating
rhythm, Holly brought her left hand to her mouth and sucked
on the stones in her ring before placing them lightly against
the base of his shaft. She let her fingers wrap around him and
then gently moved her hand up, the stones moving along the underside
of his manhood to its tip. The sensation was not unlike the
touch of teeth against him, lightly scraping his tender, tight
and nerve filled skin. She heard Nick gasp and the stones traveled
up under his shirt and across his nipples, leaving a narrow
thread of his pre-cum in their wake. Holly could feel Nick’s
shirt loosen a bit as a button was pulled form the cream colored
fabric. He was trembling. Her hand came from under his shirt
and skimmed gently down the side of his face and across his
lips. Holly felt Nick’s tongue in the palm of her hand.
“That’s my sign, Nick..” she murmured.
“Did you feel it?”
“God damn, Holly…” Nick panted. “Yes, baby.
I felt it.” Holly was suddenly displaced as Nick moved from
beneath her and she found herself sitting on the floor. “Now
here’s my sign. See if you can feel this…
” Holly felt it alright. Nick pushed her
to the tile and before she could take a breath, her panties
were gone - ripped from her hips by Nick’s large hands. There
was no talking, just two tangled bodies and then…penetration.
For a brief instant Holly thought that someone had turned on
the lights and then once again she was surrounded in darkness,
acutely aware of Nick’s body moving on her and the sound and
vibrations of his groans in her hair. Then she was shrieking
- calling for Nick and pounding on his back - urging him to
go faster, faster - and then…. Sweet oblivion. Nick exploded
with her contractions and followed Holly into the darkness.
For several minutes, they lay on the floor,
listening to their breaths and heartbeats gradually form one
pattern as they slowed. Then Nick felt Holly stir beneath him.
“You okay, Hol?” he asked gently, stroking
her curls in the blackness.
Her hand brushed against his back. “I am
now…” she sighed. “Can we go home?” Nick stood and then grasped
Holly’s hand, pulling her up to her feet. Trying to feel his
way in the dark he refastened the buttons on her dress, smoothed
her skirt and began to tuck his shirt back into his pants as
she adjusted her stockings and combed her fingers through her
hair.
“We’ll go home in a while, Holly. Not yet.”
He held her tightly for another minute before finding the doorknob
and checking the hallway. “I think this evening is far from
over.”
Nick took her hand and let her out into
the light. It took a few seconds for her eyes to adjust to the
relative brightness but she managed to catch Nick as he wiped
the wetness from his eyes.
By the time Tristan and Kevin returned
to the table, everyone had gone to the buffet except for Leighanne,
who was sitting alone, sipping on a glass of wine and looking
a little ill at ease.
“Thank God…” she said as Kevin held Tristan’s
chair for her to sit. “I was starting to feel conspicuous.”
“Where’s Brian?” Kevin asked, glancing
around the room.
“Bathroom.” Then she added, “Again.”
Kevin sat for a few minutes and then began
to feel a little restless. Tristan’s seductive question replayed
through his mind. Stomach, back, lap or knees? He had
to get moving.
“I’m gonna go mingle a little bit, Tris.
Do you want to come along?”
Tristan shook her head and cut her eyes
in Leighanne’s direction. She didn’t want to leave her alone
at the table. “Maybe in a little while.” She smiled. “You go
ahead.”
“Okay. I’ll bring you a plate when I come
back. How ‘bout you, Leigh? Want me to bring you something?”
Leighanne shook her head. “No thanks, Brian
said he’d bring something back.”
Kevin nodded and left the table. He took
the long way around the room on his way to the buffet, stopping
to chat with friends and acquaintances from the music business.
He was letting Chris Kirkpatrick give him a hard time about
being 'an old married man' when he heard a familiar voice over
his left shoulder.
“That’s right. I hear congratulations are
in order.”
The smile left Kevin’s face as he jerked
his head around and came face to face with the owner of that
voice - Asa Whitmore.
